Our PCN Treatment Centre allows us to offer improved access to Primary Care services ensuring Patients receive great Patient Care.
Our Centre consists of:
- GP’s
- Advanced Nurse Practitioners
- Health Care Assistants
- Respiratory Nurse
- Advanced Paramedic Practitioners

What is the Treatment Centre?
Bournemouth East Collaborative Primary Care Network (PCN) is developing a new and exciting treatment centre to allow for improved access to primary care services. Over the next few months, the treatment centre will be providing in hours and out of hours prevision to ensure that Patients receive timely appointments.
Will this cover my GP Practice?
Yes. The PCN provides healthcare to 53,000 patients across the following practices, Beaufort Surgery, Littledown Surgery, Shelley Manor & Holdenhurst Medical Centre, and Southbourne Surgery.
Where will the new Treatment Centre be located?
The treatment centre team will be based at our Shelly Manor Surgery in Boscombe,1st floor situated in the private suite.
Who will I be seen by?
It will be comprising of multi-disciplinary Heathcare Professionals working towards a vision of providing integrated care for all our patients and improving access.
What is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)?
Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP’s) are educated at master’s Level in clinical practice and have been assessed as competent in practice using their expert clinical knowledge and skills. They have the freedom and authority to act, making autonomous decisions in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients and able to prescribe.
How do I gain access to the services?
When you call your GP practice in the morning or afternoon for a same day appointment, you may be offered an appointment at the new treatment centre to be seen by one of the multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals.
Enhanced Care Team
The Enhanced Care team is a multidisciplinary team based at Southbourne Surgery. The team consists of:
- a lead GP
- locum GPs
- Advanced Nurse Practitioners
- a Paramedic Practitioner
- 4 Frailty Specialist Nurses
- a Trainee Nursing Associate
- a Health Care Assistant
- a linked Pharmacist
We also have 2 part time Care Coordinators who job share, and the team also works closely with Social Prescribers.
We provide 4 services as follows:
- Enhanced Care to 30 care homes aligned to the PCN
- Acute same day visiting service for patients of the 4 PCN surgeries
- Frailty Service – full assessments including completion of Dorset Care Plan
- Phlebotomy & HCA services for housebound patients.


Pharmacy Team
The PCN has 4 pharmacists and 2 Pharmacy Technicians that collaboratively work across all 4 practices, working with practice prescribing leads and offering direct patient contact with Pharmacist Clinics to improve the quality of patient care and understanding.
First Contact Physios
Our PCN has 4 Musculoskeletal First Contact Practitioners (FCPs). They are advanced practitioners, usually very experienced physiotherapists, who can assess and manage patients aged 16 and over with musculoskeletal problems, such as:
- all soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains or sports injuries
- arthritis – any joint
- possible problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons or bone, eg tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, ankle sprains
- lower back pain/ mid-back pain and neck pain
You do not need to see your GP before accessing your FCP, you can simply book in directly by contacting your GP surgery reception team. Your FCP will take a history and examine you, will order any relevant tests and diagnose your condition.


Social Prescribers
Social prescribing involves helping patients to improve their health, wellbeing and social welfare by connecting them to community services which might be run by the council or a local charity. You do not need a GP referral to access this service.
They can help with the following:
- loneliness & isolation
- carer support
- bereavement
- living with a long-term health condition
- employment, housing or financial problems
Care Coordinators
Care Co-coordinators work closely with Social Prescribers to connect individuals to appropriate support for non-clinical needs such as:
- loneliness & isolation
- career support
- independent living
- memory loss and dementia
- and more
Also providing support to both Clinical and Non-Clinical staff in supporting Patient care and digital services.


Mental Health Practitioners
Our Mental Health Practitioners support adults with moderate to severe mental health difficulties such as:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
- Eating Disorders
- Diagnosed Personality Disorders
